When I have a discussion with Christians about healing and the power and authority we have been given by Jesus to heal, I often mention that Jesus never prayed for the sick. Most people look at me in disbelief and are often offended that I would say such a ridiculous thing. I would challenge them to cite a scripture verse that reveals Jesus praying to the Father to heal someone. There is no such verse!
The closest Jesus comes to praying before commanding is in John 11: 41-42; "And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, 'Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by, I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me'". Jesus states that He only spoke with the Father because He wanted people to believe that He was sent to earth by God. This is not Jesus asking or imploring the Father to raise Lazarus from the dead. This is the sole instance in the Bible where Jesus spoke to God before proceeding with commands. His powerful command, “Lazarus, come forth!” is what caused him to come back to life, not praying or begging God.
The bible is clear that we are to do what Jesus did, and even greater things (John 14:12). Why do most believers “pray” for the sick when we are supposed to use the example of Jesus and “command” the issue to leave? When did this “tradition” of asking or begging God to heal begin? In Luke 9:1 Jesus gives us power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases.I decided to break the “traditions of men” in my own life a few years ago by declaring what I wanted the end result to be when I minister to the sick.
In Matthew 10:1 Jesus gave us power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease. Not all sickness is a demon, although many times they are. If a person chooses to smoke 3 packs of cigarettes a day and develops lung disease, it was the choice of that person's lifestyle that got them sick, not a demon. If this person gets healed by Jesus and continues to smoke, we cannot say that the healing didn't work. We always have the option to decide whether to consume substances or engage in activities which could be detrimental to our health.
I feel so strongly about commanding the health issue away rather than praying for the sick, that I created a song/music video which addresses this truth. Many people have been healed by receiving their healing through the biblical commands in this song. You might be aware of individuals in need of physical healing. Kindly share this video link with them.Be Healed
Another truth which I discovered is that the person getting healed should not pray while being ministered to. They should receive exclusively during the declaration of the command. Receive in faith what Jesus did on the whipping post. “By His stripes you were healed”. (1 Peter 2:24) Do not doubt your healing. In fact, should there be others in the room harboring doubts, it's advisable for them to exit the room. In Mark 5:40 Jesus put them all outside before raising the little girl from the dead. Doubt cancels faith!
Once we realize that Christ has given us power and authority over all demons and to cure diseases, we will start healing the sick the way Jesus and His disciples did. It’s difficult for many of us to change. Many people often begin by embracing the teachings of Christian leaders with confidence and belief, particularly when these instructions are delivered by authoritative figures. Some of these teachings may not align with the content of the Word of God. Cultivating a habit of critical analysis is essential. It encourages us to question and reflect rather than accept things at face value. By anchoring our actions and beliefs in the Word of God, we cultivate a life guided by wisdom, integrity, and faith.
When a believer chooses to not only understand the teachings of the scriptures but also starts to act upon the Word, we set forth on a journey of transformation.Leading a life in harmony with the teachings of the Scriptures transforms our lives into a profound, intimate, and spiritual quest, which many individuals from diverse religious backgrounds strive to embark on. James 1:22 reads; "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves". Do the Word!
Job 22:28 reads; "Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee". I thank the Lord for honoring my decrees as I have seen so many people healed! Before this, I was practically begging (praying) for God to somehow find it within Himself to have mercy and, “if it be thy will” heal this brother or sister. I was not doing what the Bible commanded. Please, ask Holy Spirit to give you boldness to do what the Bible says, an action which requires faith as you move forward despite fear and uncertainty as you rightly divide the Word of truth!
